From gvillalobos at ocean.edu Thu Mar 26 12:01:46 2009 From: gvillalobos at ocean.edu (Gloria A. Villalobos) Date: Thu, 26 Mar 2009 12:01:46 -0400 Subject: [Stones] Priscilla Follow up Message-ID: Hi All: I want to sincerely thank all of you for the advice and support surrounding Priscilla's stones & eventual passing. I didn't mean to drop out of "sight" but I found that I was hit pretty hard by losing this little girl. It's been nearly 3 months now, and just writing about losing her I'm still finding myself sitting here crying. I miss her tremendously. Her cagemate, Lisa, is doing well. Amazingly enough, having had a major ear infection that left her with slight facial paralysis, nearly losing an eye and undergoing surgery for what the vet determined was a "highly aggressive malignant thyroid tumor" Lisa's now the better part of 6 years old and still going strong. We recently welcomed a new piggie, Rachael, to our family. At 1 1/2 years old, she's a little ball of energy. Lisa goes between running around with her new friend, to sitting in her house looking at Rachael like she's crazy bouncing all over the place. But I've taken some of the things I've learned from the list, made a few changes to their diet in hopes of avoiding future stone piggies. Hug your piggies for me, Gloria. I have read about many piggies who were helped by it, and it sounds as though it helped Churbie himself in the past. We are sending healing wheeks and all good wishes his way and he is in our prayers. Please do keep us posted. Best wishes, Cindy, Tumbleweed, and Friday > I wrote a few weeks back and have a few more questions on supplementing Churbie's care with shilintong. > I have had him seen and he has another stone. I am frustrated because I just had one removed in October and here we are with another one!! > Against my better judgment I listened to this new vet and didnt use the shillingtong to prevent another formation. > We are currently treating Churbie with antibiotics and probiotics, and metacam for pain....until we can get him stable enough for removal of stone #3. > This vet practice has never heard of the herb and says I can use it at my own risk. All I know is he used it after stone #1 and didnt have another till a year and a half later. They site that he was much younger then, and attribute this as to why the long space between stones. Churbie is 3 years old now and so far seems to be hanging in there. Bloodwork came back normal but urine came back bad (So they are treating with antibiotics) > Anyone out there with thoughts and success with shilintong? > Thanks again~ Laurel and Churbie > >
